New Skyline Products at the 2025 Healthcare Design Expo & Conference

Skyline returned to this year’s Healthcare Design Expo & Conference with two very different product launches—and took home one of the show’s top honors: the Gold Nightingale Award for the Murals on Glass Collection by Jill Malek.

Malek’s artwork was designed to support the well-being of the most vulnerable among us.

Murals on Glass is a collection that translates landscape formations into abstracted large-scale architectural surfaces. Ideal for healthcare environments, artist Jill Malek’s designs provide calming visual experiences that support patients, staff, and visitors.

Inspired by water, light, and land, these organic forms are shown to support neuro-inclusive environments by reducing stress, improving orientation, and supporting healthy cognitive and emotional responses. Offered in a range of colorways and glass opacities, the murals can be scaled for feature walls, elevator bays, wall cladding, partitions, or other glazing applications across facilities.

Aesthetics & Innovation
Healthcare spaces often rely on visual design elements to promote calm and reduce environmental stressors. Jill Malek’s murals bring the restorative qualities of nature indoors through abstract, biophilic designs applied directly to glass. Unlike surface treatments that fade or peel, Skyline’s digital glass printing technology fuses artwork permanently into the glass surface, ensuring durability and clarity over time.

Built Environment Solution
Skyline’s glass murals are engineered for healthcare settings where durability and hygiene are critical. The non-porous surface is pathogen-resistant, easy to clean, and suitable for high-traffic areas. The digital printing process allows for vibrant yet soft tonal gradations, ensuring designs remain both durable and calming over years of use.

Contribution/Solution for Clinical or Operational Outcomes
Evidence-based design has demonstrated that calming, biophilic imagery supports positive patient outcomes, particularly in behavioral health and neurodiverse settings. Malek’s patterns are intentionally abstract, avoiding overstimulation or literal imagery that may trigger negative associations. Instead, they create environments that feel supportive and restorative for a broad spectrum of users, including autistic individuals and those in behavioral health care.

Environmental Resposibility
As with all Skyline products, the murals are manufactured in Chicago with locally sourced, sustainable materials. The process uses low-VOC, water-based inks with glass as the primary medium. Skyline’s production practices prioritize energy efficiency and waste reduction, with Health Product Declarations (HPD) available to support project documentation and certification goals.

Pricing

Introducing SDX4™ Smart Blinds

SDX4 SmartBlinds

Skyline also unveiled SDX4™ Smart Blinds, an innovation in privacy glass that delivers the look and function of blinds, without any of the mechanical issues.

Laser-cut horizontal shapes are embedded in switchable film between glass layers. With a touch, the glass transitions between clear and opaque bands, simulating the motion of blinds opening and closing.

SDX4 offers:
Zero mechanical components: Nothing to jam, misalign, or break
Enhanced hygiene: Fully sealed surface, ideal for infection control
Simple automation: Switch, sensor, or building system integration
Energy efficiency: Supports daylighting and thermal goals

Engineered for high-performance environments, SDX4 is a natural fit for healthcare, behavioral health, education, and workplace design.

Designing for Healing Environments

Both Murals on Glass and SDX4™ Smart Blinds reflect Skyline’s commitment to creating surfaces that promote calm, privacy, and well-being.
